AIDS pastel drawings    early 1990s

The early 1990s were a difficult time in the gay community.   Several of my friends were HIV+ and some were dying of AIDS.  I visited several friends in hospitals, and after I returned to my studio I would draw.  This is one of the rare times that I used chalk pastels on rough coloured paper.  Pastels allowed me to fill the space more easily, especially with a darkened background.   As with the Etienne drawings I would attempt to put in the visitor.

These are mid-size drawings, probably about 30” in length.  I have still to determine their actual size (scanned from slides).
